Here are the top tips for considering what live music suits your event best:

  1. Do you want mingling or dancing, or both?
Probably the most important question - what is the goal of the live music. if you want people to comfortably interact with each other, without the awkward lean-in, opting for background music set a medium volume will set the atmosphere without becoming disruptive. This is a cornerstone of the Ellian Duo as we love relaxing and timeless music that makes your crowd feel good without being too much.

  2. The size of your event
The size of your event will determine the style of music and what the entertainment package offers. While an event of up to 50 people might only need a small sound system, you want to ensure events any bigger have adequate speakers to reach each corner of the room. This means the volume is even throughout, without blasting a singular speaker which can often disturb your guests. Setting up multiple speakers is called “Daisy-chaining” and can be something you ask your vendor about.

  3. The age of your guests
The age of your guests determines the style of music you want played. If the majority of oyur audience is above 30, opting for a varied playlist of music from the 60’s through to now is an effective option. If you crowd is all under 30, you would most likely choose live entertainment that has music of the last 30 years. Ellian specialises in blending timeless music from every decade that are familiar and enjoyable - think Adele, John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa.

  4. Do you have a particular theme?
Having the live music tied into the theme of the evening is a great idea. If your theme is tequila sunrise and the venue is near the beach, option for a guitar and vocal package that plays light-hearted upbeat music that blends pop, reggae and folk. On the contrary if your event is in Sydney CBD at a 5-star restaurant, you might want something a bit edgier like adding a drumkit, or a musical act that plays classy and elegant music.

  5. Choosing experienced musicians

If you are nervous about choosing the right entertainment for your event, opt for an act that has experience under their belt. What is most important as entertainers is being able to adapt to the space and what the event requires. This might mean adapting the volume of music to the room dependent on the circumstance, not playing inappropriate songs, dressing in accordance to the event parameters, bumping-in and being set-up on time, and knowing how to interact with your guests on and off stage.
