Who is Ellian?

Justine and Alex create a refined atmosphere combining their love of timeless music with tasteful percussive sounds, guitar and soulful vocals. Alex Hirlian won the prestigious National Jazz Awards in 2018, While Justine is an ARIA-nominated songwriter, penning songs for The Voice Australia and artists such as Casey Donovan

Between Alex and Justine, the pair have performed over 1000 shows since 2014, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Biella Festival in Northern Italy, Shanghai's BlueNote Jazz Club and Australia's Parliament House. Sydney venues include The Opera House, The Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Doltone House, The Langham and major brands events such as Facebook, Google, Mercedes-Benz and The Crown.

Both have dedicated their lives to music, each holding a Bachelor of Music from Sydney universities. Alex’s band Tourismo released their debut album in 2023 through ABC Jazz, while Justine has had multiple releases through Australian label Gatcombe, and over 60 co-written songs released internationally.

In 2022, Alex featured at Montreux Jazz Festival with band Brekky Boy, hosting the official jam sessions for sixteen consecutive nights, sharing the stage with renowned band members touring with John Legend. Diana Ross and Stormzy.

    Justine Eltakchi

    SINGER / GUITARIST / PIANIST

    Justine Eltakchi is a multi-instrumentalist and ARIA-nominated songwriter who has dedicated her life to the music industry. Writing songs for artists like Casey Donovan and The Voice Australia to collaborating with brands like Giorgio Armani and the FIFA Women’s Cup, Justine brings her passion and her soulful and distinctive vocals to every project.

    Justine’s musical inspirations shine through her performance style including Stevie Wonder, Carole King and Alicia Keys. Other accolades throughout her career include supporting Vanessa Amorosi on Tour, writing in Sweden, Switzerland and London and signing to Gatcombe Music in 2020 for her original project.

    Performing over 700 shows in the last five years, Justine has extensive experience performing across multiple genres and events. The Ellian Duo is a culmination of this experience and Justine and Alex’s love of simplicity; acoustic guitar and drums that creates an elegant and modern atmosphere.

    DRUMMER / PERCUSSIONIST

    With an incredible list of accolades under his belt, Alex Hirlian’s talent raises no questions. Winner of the prestigious National Jazz Awards in 2018, Alex has spent much of the last several years touring internationally with renowned musicians Brekky Boy and Josh Meader. His debut original album was released through ABC Jazz under the band name Tourismo, and was ARIA-nominated in 2024.

    Alex’s career has spanned venues like the Blue Note in Shang-hai to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Montreal Jazz in Canada. He has worked on brand events including Porsche and Google and continues to perform full-time as a go-to drummer for many collaborations in Sydney and overseas. With a music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Alex has a combined twenty years of training and experience on-stage.

    Alex’s brings his finesse and mastery to each performance, always leaving audiences in awe and inspired.
